There is a strong interest in the transport of methane to the atmosphere and the subsequent contribution to climate change. In sediments around the world, there is a community of bacteria that efficiently oxide methane and prohibit transport out of the sediments. While this cycle is known to occur around the world little is understood about the origin and cycling of these bacteria. This study was conducted in the Beaufort Sea along the Alaskan Arctic Shelf in coastal region with Atlantic and Pacific Ocean layer and mixing with the Arctic Ocean.  → Go to Full Article
