Strategic Carbon-developed plans for the exploration of methane hydrate resources off the south coast of China led to a series of meetings with senior management and technical experts from the Chinese National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) (www.cnoocltd.com), one of the world’s 50 largest oil companies.
The initial meeting was held in Anchorage, Alaska with SC Founder Dr. Richard Coffin and included an organizing representative ShuQi Zhang from USA (iSEA) in discussions covering the development of future field assessments for CNOOC. Also in August, the CNOOC delegation traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with SC co-founder Kevin Stickney and founding members of United Global resources.
These collective discussions resulted in a plan currently under review by CNOOC for Strategic Carbon to 1.) Conduct China coastal methane hydrate assessments; 2.) Enhance current CNOOC methane hydrate exploration technology; 3.) Organize an international methane hydrate exploration review panel for CNOOC; and 4.) Plan an international methane hydrate exploration workshop in China.
